Hepatic abscess mimicking hepatocellular carcinoma in a patient with alcoholic liver disease

چکیده
Clinical course, diagnosis and therapy of hepatic abscesses have been changed for several decades according to development of imaging modalities, antibiotics and treatment technique. Although, recently, the incidence of amebic hepatic abscess has been decreasing in developed countries, pyogenic hepatic abscesses still often occur. While hepatic abscesses may present with various imaging findings according to the degree of maturation and internal contents, it is very rare that hepatic abscess radiographically mimics malignant hepatic tumors such as hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Thus, in such case, it could be challenging to correctly distinguish between hepatic abscess and HCC. We report a case of hepatic abscess that radiographically mimicked HCC, and was not accompanied by typical clinical and laboratory findings suggestive of abscess.

Isolated tubercular hepatic abscess with diffuse pattern mimicking hepatocellular carcinoma in HIV positive patient: a case report.
Isolated hepatic tuberculosis presenting as a mass either with or without fever can be confused with hepatocellular carcinoma. Clinical examination and laboratory investigations are not specific. Radiological investigations such as ultrasound and computed tomography cannot confirm the diagnosis; hence it is vital to always make an effort to demonstrate presence of acid fast bacilli in aspirated...
متن کاملHepatocellular Carcinoma Mimicking Liver Abscesses in a Cirrhotic Patient with Severe Septic Shock as a Result of Salmonella O9 HG Infection
We describe a case of severe Salmonella O9 HG sepsis with a mass in the liver, which was diagnosed as hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) by autopsy of the liver. The patient was a 67-year-old man with chronic high blood pressure. In addition, he was an alcoholic and had been drinking every day for many years. He had had a dinner of 'sukiyaki' with a raw egg two days before admission. The next morni...

Abstract Background and Objectives Non-alcoholic liver disease (NAFLD) is a spectrum of diseases, ranging from non-alcoholic fatty liver (NAFL) to non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) which can lead to liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. Nonalchololic fatty liver is the most prevalent hepatic disorder worldwide which can affect up to the one out of four adults. Little is known about...

A high percent of patients with inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) experience non intestinal symptoms. Many studies demonstrated that hepatobiliary disorders are the most common. Corresponding disorders consist of primary sclerosing cholangitis, non alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), biliary stones, pericholangitis, autoimmune hepatitis, liver amyloidosis, liver abscess, liver granuloma, hepatoce...
متن کاملA Case of Inflammatory Pseudotumor of the Liver Mimicking Hepatocellular Carcinoma on EOB-MRI and PET
A 71-year-old man was referred to us for investigation of a liver mass and adenomyomatosis of gallbladder. Findings on ethoxybenzyl diethylenetriamine-enhanced MRI (EOB-MRI) led to a presumptive diagnosis of a 1.5 cm hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in the right posterior lobe of the liver. Transcatheter arterial chemoembolization and radiofrequency ablation of the tumor were attempted. After 2 m...
